Every Perth home needs working smoke alarms in the right rooms, wired to mains power, and meeting AS 3786:2014. Get any of that wrong and you’re risking your family’s safety, your sale settlement, or your rental compliance.
Alby Electrical & Air handles the full job. Our licensed Perth electricians install, replace, and service smoke alarms across homes, rentals, and commercial sites, making sure each install meets WA Building Regulations and the current Australian Standard.
Whether you’re moving in, selling, renting out, or just due for a 10-year replacement, we’ll get your property sorted without the back-and-forth.

New build, renovation, or first-time fit-out. We install photoelectric smoke alarms across Perth homes and businesses to AS 3786 standards, in every location WA law requires.

WA law requires hard-wired smoke alarms with battery backup in homes sold, rented, or built after specific dates. Our electricians run the wiring, interconnect the alarms, and certify the work.

Annual testing keeps your alarms working when they need to. We check sensor function, battery backup, interconnection, and replacement dates, then send you a written report.

Smoke alarms expire 10 years from the manufacture date. If yours are older or showing signs of failure, we'll swap them for compliant photoelectric units on the same visit, where possible.
Photoelectric smoke alarms detect slow, smouldering fires (the type that start from couches, electrical faults, or smoking materials). These are the alarms WA law now requires in residential properties under most circumstances, and the type we recommend for nearly every Perth home.
Ionisation alarms respond faster to flaming fires but are being phased out of residential use. We supply them only where specifically required for commercial or industrial applications.
Dual-sensor units combine photoelectric and ionisation detection in one device for properties needing coverage against both fire types. We’ll let you know if this suits your situation.
Call or message us. We'll review your property, your reason for the install (sale, rental, replacement, new build), and quote a fixed price.
Our licensed electrician arrives on the booked day, installs your smoke alarms, runs hard-wiring where needed, and tests the full system. Most homes are done in a single visit.
We'll show you how to test the alarms monthly, change backup batteries, and what each warning sound means.
You get a written certificate confirming the install meets WA Building Regulations and AS 3786, ready for your settlement agent, property manager, or records.

Every install is carried out by a licensed electrician, not a handyman. Your work is certified and compliant.

We assess each property on its own. Older homes, double-storey layouts, and rentals each need a different approach, and we plan accordingly.

Our Google reviews speak for themselves. We turn up when we say we will, do the job once, and leave the place tidy.
Protect your family with compliant smoke alarms in every required room. We work across Perth metro suburbs and book in within days, not weeks.
Offices, retail, warehouses, and hospitality venues all have specific fire safety obligations. We install and maintain alarm systems that meet your building's compliance schedule.
Landlords in WA must have hard-wired smoke alarms installed before each new lease and before any sale. We handle the install, the compliance paperwork, and ongoing servicing so your property manager has what they need.
Worried about an old alarm, a looming sale, or a rental inspection? Alby Electrical & Air will get your smoke alarms compliant and working in one visit.

He just installed 40 downlights and an outside fan in a day. Matt has a great system that confirms your bookings by text message, then sends reminders a day before and on the day to let you know he's 30 mins away.Posted on Eimear QuinnTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They replaced several old light fixtures, a couple of expired smoke alarms, and ensured our electrical was compliant ahead of hitting the market. The service we received was friendly and professional, and post service followup for a minor issue was dealt with promptly. We'd definitely use them again and will be recommending the boys to our friends when they ask if we know any reliable sparkies. Yes. In Western Australia, residential smoke alarms must be hard-wired to mains power with a 9-volt battery backup. This applies to any home being sold, rented, or newly built. Installations must comply with Australian Standard AS 3786:2014 and be carried out by a licensed electrician.
No. Hard-wired smoke alarm installation in WA must be done by a licensed electrician. Battery-only alarms can be self-installed, but battery-only alarms don’t meet the compliance requirements for sale, rental, or new builds. Getting a licensed electrician to handle the install protects your insurance, your sale settlement, and your tenants.
Smoke alarms must be replaced every 10 years from the manufacture date printed on the back of the unit. Even if the alarm still beeps when tested, the sensor degrades over time and won’t reliably detect smoke past that mark. We can check your manufacture dates during any service call.
Smoke alarms must be installed in every hallway connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home, and on each storey of the dwelling, even if no bedrooms are on that level. Single-storey homes without a hallway need an alarm in or near the sleeping area.
Cost depends on whether you need a straight replacement, a new hard-wired install, or alarms across multiple storeys. We quote a fixed price up front after a quick property review (no hidden hourly rates or surprise charges).
Yes. After every install, you receive a written compliance certificate confirming the work meets AS 3786 and WA Building Regulations. This is what your settlement agent, property manager, or insurer will ask for.
